Hi There,

It’s me again! Yes, two posts in one day…watch out ya’ll, i’m on a role! I’m sharing one of my favorite summer 2K19 looks and hopefully it will serve up some inspiration for the remainder of our warm days, (it’s actually 88 degrees today)! Now that I have fully committed and invested in this new spin on my Fall wardrobe (see tomorrow’s post for more details), I won’t be able to wear any of these colored pieces for a little while (so sad)!

Color freaks people out for some odd reason! I realize that statement can be taken a few different ways so let me expound. Bright colored clothing is something that a great deal of people shy away from (much better :)). They either feel that it does not work with their skin tone, or they don’t know how to style it properly! I, on the other hand have always embraced colors, I love the challenge of styling it and making it my own! I recently had someone ask me to break down how I go about matching my clothes, step by step, and my response was “WHAT? I don’t even think about it”! But… the fact is that there is so much that goes into styling, it’s a vibe, it’s an energy, it’s an eye, it’s a taste curated from your personal life and experiences over time. It is far more complicated that what I can post here or share in a YT video but I shall try!

I feel like most people think the only neutral colors are white, black and maybe tan! Every color unless it is a print can be a neutral color! For example, take this pink top that I am wearing, it is neutral to me until styled. There are some shades that go better with a variety of colors because they fade into the background but every color has a family and specific variations that will work well with that shade. You can keep the color in the family or you can date outside of its race (slight metaphor, did it work?)… When you step outside of the color family you explore different options and you are no longer just matching, and sticking to what you know, you are now truly styling that piece and making new connections/collaborations! (Wait, am I talking about clothes or relationships here?)!

In my experience, there are a couple of fundamentals that are important for any type of styling especially colors! Those include but are not limited to: Balance, Statement-piece, Confidence!

  1. Balance is one of the main aspects when it comes to styling different colors, the outfit needs to feel properly proportioned with just the right amount of whatever it is that you are going for.
  2. The statement-piece or the piece that brings the entire look together! Sometimes it may be understated, quiet, in other instances it may be BOLD, Eye-catching. Whatever form it may take, every person with style knows just when they have that piece! At times it’s the last to be added, and sometimes you build the outfit around it. In this outfit, I would say the Staud bag is that piece that clenched the entire look together and it was the last piece to be added! Have you ever seen a stylist at work, you’ll see them move about eyeing the look from different angles, twisting, pulling, adjusting… because they know that they either haven’t found that piece quite yet, or something is wrong with the fit, perhaps something is missing or maybe the reverse in that the outfit is not balanced and you need to remove one or two pieces! I do this all the time with my own outfits and sometimes I look at a person and restyle them in my head!
  3. Last but not least, and probably the most important is CONFIDENCE! It is the MAJOR KEY, and the reason why it is so important is because not everyone will get it; some people may not understand your interpretation and THAT’S OKAY! You are not here to make everyone understand, you are here to appease your creative juices and push the envelope. You should inspire, spark ideas, break barriers, take a walk outside of the norm! That is what I love to do, that is why style speaks to me!It will be quite interesting to see what I do with my limited color palette over the next few months, but I can’t wait to find out!
